A Federal Flood Damage Reduction Project
The Proposed Federal Project Plan
The proposed project includes two features. The first is reconstructing and recontouring a portion of the Greens Bayou Channel between Cutten Road and Veteran's Memorial. When this portion of the project is complete, the bottom width of the revised channel will be similar to the existing channel, approximately 60 feet across. Trees will be preserved wherever possible. After construction, native trees will be planted along the right-of-way and on in-channel benches. Grass will be reestablished on disturbed areas of the bottom and sides of the channel.

The second feature of the proposed project is the construction of a 108-acre stormwater detention basin. It will be bound generally by Antoine Road, the Sam Houston Tollway and a U-Haul facility, by the Briarcreek Subdivision and Greens Bayou. West Greens Drive will bisect the basin, dividing it into two parts, but it will function as a single flood damage reduction feature.

Trees and wildlife habitat will be preserved wherever possible. The new stormwater detention basin could include habitat and recreational features. Examples might be:
      Hiking, biking and walking trails
      Birdwatching sites
      Playfields
      Water Quality features; and
      Wildlife habitat features
Native trees and grasses could be planted in and around the basin, with wetland plants installed in low areas as part of the landscaping. These features would create wildlife, water quality and recreation benefits.
